### Customary and Metric Measurements

Objective: Students identify and convert customary and metric units of measure.

Convert 19 c to floz

Method 1: Proportions

Write a proportion

Method 2: Multiply by 1

Multiply by a ratio equal to 1 and divide out the units

19 cups is equal to 152 fluid ounces

Metric Units base on powers of 10
• To convert metric units, multiply or divide by a power of 10
• Multiply to convert to smaller unit
• Divide to convert to larger unit

Convert each measure.

510 cm to meters

2.3 L to milliliters

100 cm=1m

So divide by 100

1 L=100mL

So multiply by 1000

Move decimal 2 places left

Move decimal 3 places right
