Flow chart delineating reduction of study population to analytical sample. 3,550 men HIV-infected as of September 30, 2009 2,013 men were alive as of July 1, 1995 1,467 men initiated HAART between July 1, 1995 and September 30, 2009 6,972 men enrolled in the MACS • 1,252 men had time interval between the last date reporting HAART-free and the first date reporting HAART for ≤ 1 year. 1,002 men survived for at least 5 years after HAART initiation • 906 men had at least one study visit after 5 years since HAART initiation with CD4+ T cell count and HIV-1 RNA measurements • 706 men had at least one study visit after 5 years since HAART initiation with reporting HAART for ≥80% of the post-HAART visits from HAART initiation to current visit • 614 men had CD4+ T cell count and HIV-1 RNA measurements before HAART initiation and at the visit prior to current visit, had two CD4+ T cell count and HIV-1 RNA measurements in the first five years after HAART initiation, and had HAART adherence data reported at the current visit
