Why a survey? • SB 1108 (Padilla, English Learners: reclassification) • Report to State Board and Legislature • Policies in place in districts statewide • Recommendations about effective policies • Report due Jan 1, 2014 • PPIC will survey school districts • On-line • 20 minutes • No individual information

  3. Survey Topics • Establishing primary language and screening for EL status • Four reclassification criteria • English proficiency • Basic skills • Teacher evaluation • Parent consultation

  4. Potential next steps • Report on diversity of district reclassification policies • Potentially link reclassification policies to district EL and RFEP outcomes • In time for Jan 1, 2014 SB1108 deadline • PPIC longer-term study with a few California districts • In time for SB 1108’s 2017 deadline
