  3. Objectives By the end of this session you will be able to: • Identify good lesson objectives. • Create SMART objectives for your own lessons.

  4. What is an objective? An objective explains what you want your students to know and be able to do by the end of the lesson.

  5. Grade Your Drawing 1 Point- Picture of school 2 Points- School has a playground 3 Points- Students are playing football on the playground 4 Points- Sun in the sky 5 Points - Key features are labeled ADD up your points! The winning team gets a prize!

  6. 5 Criteria for Objectives The best objectives are… 1. Specific 2. Measurable 3. Achievable 4. Relevant 5. Time Appropriate

  7. Objectives – SMART? 1) Students will be able to understand the rules of football. Is it Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time Appropriate?

  8. Objectives – SMART? 2) Students will be able to demonstrate a successful pass to another team player.

  9. Objectives – SMART? 3) By the end of the lesson, the students will know football strategies.

  10. Objectives – SMART? 4) Students will be able to recognize a football field.

  11. Creating SMART Objectives 1) A lesson about multiplication 2) A lesson about hygiene 3) A lesson about writing a story 4) A lesson about verbs in a different language 5) A lesson about… Peer Assess – Are they Specific, Measureable, Achievable, Relevant, Time Appropriate?

  13. Objectives By the end of this session you will be able to: • Explain the concept and purpose of assessment. • Implement different methods of assessment in your lessons.

  14. Individual Reflection When you are teaching, how do you know your students understand what you are teaching? Write down 2-3 methods you use to check for understanding.

  15. Assessment • Why is summative assessment (exams and tests) important? • Why is continuous assessment (checking for understanding throughout the lesson) important?

  20. Analyzing lesson plans • What does this lesson plan do well? • Is there anything that you would do to improve in the lesson plan? • Where does the teacher use ‘I do’, ‘We do’, and ‘You do’?

  21. Create a lesson plan using thefollowing objectives • Explain the importance of rules in the classrooms. • Create a list of good quality classroom rules. • Agree on the consequences for breaking each rule.
