Area of study 1: Nature and function of language. “Language is…a primary means of creative expression for individuals and groups.” Area of study 2: Language acquisition The main focus is on the developmental stages of child language acquisition and what children need to learn as they develop from babyhood to early adolscence. How? When? What do the theorists say? 1stvs 2nd language acquisition
