  1. Troon Primary School P7 Award of Ambition2017-18

  2. Overall Aims of the Award • To provide a progressive, balanced programme of active learning activities for pupils in the key transition stage of P7 into S1. The award will form part of the P7 Pupil Profile. • To move learning beyond the classroom into a wider community context in line with Curriculum for Excellence. • To encourage the link between school and leisure with pupils taking responsibility for aspects of their own learning. • To encourage young people to see themselves as valued members of their communities and to develop an understanding of needs in their communities. • To encourage ongoing participation in positive lifestyles and interests.

  3. What is involved? There are 5 key elements to the award: • Community • Environment • Healthy Active Life • Personal Stretch • Cultural Rucksack Pupils record the activities which they undertake in relation to these within their Award of Ambition Record Books.

  4. Community Pupils will be involved in responding to needs within their local community, encouraging a practical development of active citizenship. Young people will become involved in a volunteering activity for 5 hours or more of their own leisure time over a period of at least two months. The Community section of the Record Book should be signed by an adult who has a link to the service undertaken. Instructors and leaders are likely to be the most appropriate person to certify the work undertaken.

  6. Environment • This section encourages young people to develop a considered understanding of the environment. This is a group experience, allowing young people to work as a team, plan tasks, make decisions which affect themselves and others and enjoy a challenge in the outdoor environment. • Young people should be part of a group which spends 5 hours on planned activity for a day in the countryside. The residential outing to Dolphin House addresses this element of the award.

  7. Environment Our residential outing to Dolphin House addresses this element of the award. Alternatively, pupils may wish to record other activities completed with their parents or their youth group (for example Scouts, Guides or the Youth Club)

  8. Healthy Active Life This aspect of the Award encourages young people to develop an active lifestyle, improve personal fitness and promotes healthy living. To complete this element, pupils are asked to spend at least 5 hours of their leisure time over a period of at least 2 months.

  10. Personal Stretch This section is about personal challenge in an area of interest to the young person. Young people who complete the Section should: Discuss with parents what a suitable challenge could be then agree this with their class teacher Set challenging targets and where possible exceed these Develop resilience when faced with challenging tasks This is a free choice section, directed by the young person with support

  12. Cultural Rucksack The purpose of the Cultural Rucksack Section is to promote artistic and cultural experiences. It encourages young people to develop new or existing interests and pastimes to new levels for 5 hours or more of their personal time, over a period of at least 2 months.

  14. Football – TPS Football Team 3.15 to 4.15pm Dancing – Tues evening 6pm to 7pm September 2017 Ongoing Jane attends football training on a weekly basis. She thoroughly enjoys it and gives of her very best at all times. Jane particularly enjoys playing in matches against other schools. She has scored 5 goals! Jane loves to dance and participates in a dance class on a Tuesday evening. It is hard work and has developed her fitness. A.
