  3. Holden’s Childhood • The museum • He doesn’t take anything serious (school) • Likes to imagine that he’s in a movie beating up the bad guys. (Maurice) • likes to be fake by acting tough but he’s really scared (Maurice) • likes to make things fair for little kids or equal (seesaw in the park) • He’s a virgin • He’s a liar (talking to Mrs. Morrows)

  4. Holden’s Adulthood • Drinking • Smoking • Calling a prostitute • Wants to be on his own • Loves Phoebe and Allie • Likes to donate to charities

  5. Holden’s Transition The red hunting hat -symbol of childhood -makes him unique from others The catcher in the rye -symbol of kindness and what he wants to do -shows he can make decisions The record -symbol of putting someone else before him - symbol of showing love and care

  6. Holden’s innocence lost • He curses a lot - changes because of curse word on the wall • Wants to move west • Wants to be alone • Wants to save children’s innocence • wants to give back by giving money
