The Journey It began with an idea… • July 2010 a small group of seniors and service providers begin work on the Oxford Master Aging Plan The idea developed into a plan… • Steering Committee formed • Funding from the Ontario Trillium Foundation • Shercon Associates Inc. selected as project consultants

  3. Target Groups Requiring some assistance Well/fit seniors Requiring 24-hour support

  4. Ontario Government Focus “The Seniors Care Strategy will help our seniors get the right care, at the right time and in the right place – which for many seniors is at home, where they want to be. “ Deb Matthews, Minister of Health and Long-Term Care

  5. Survey Results Findings The needs identified by the seniors were highly consistent with the needs identified through the survey of providers.

  7. Another Phase of the Journey Begins Transitional Steering Committee Reconstitute into a Board Develop Terms of Reference

Vision & Goals Oxford County – a place where aging is celebrated and seniors are an integral part of society. • Establish a strong leadership profile. • Foster an active and positive lifestyle for all seniors. • Optimize the health and wellness of seniors. • Improve access and utilization of services and supports. • Build and maintain a supportive infrastructure.

Next Four Months • Presentation to Municipal and County Councils • Recruit remaining Board Members • Recruit Committee members • Partner with a host organization • Establish a Coordinator/Community Developer support position • Plan “Rural Road Shows” • Develop a comprehensive implementation action plan

RURAL ROAD SHOWS - 2013 • Provide information and contacts for existing municipal, provincial and federal initiatives and programs for seniors • Coordinate with various organizations and associations for presenters and locations • Multiple locations and attendance opportunities • Repeated up to 3 times over course of year

  11. Needed Motion of endorsement from each Municipal Council and Oxford County Council
