APu Mentoring Training Guide

The APU Baseball Mentorship Program aims to develop well-rounded young men by facilitating mentorship between upperclassmen and freshmen. Spanning ten weeks in both the fall and spring, this program includes bi-weekly and monthly meetings to address social, spiritual, academic, and transitional challenges faced by new players. Our vision is to foster growth through Christ, scholarship, service, and essential life skills. As a mentor, you have the vital opportunity to guide underclassmen, helping them navigate their journeys and excel both on and off the field.

  2. Program overview • The APU baseball mentorship program is designed to develop well rounded men and aide in the transition from high school to college • In order to do this we have matched up upper class players with freshman players

  3. Time Overview • 10 week program (Fall) • Meetings bi-weekly • 30 minutes • 10 week program (Spring) • Meetings monthly • 30 minutes

  4. Vision • The vision of the APU baseball mentorship program is to ease develop well-rounded young men who are able to excel on and off the field through Christ, scholarship, service, and life skill development.

  5. Mission • The mission of APU baseball mentorship program is to provide a structured and guided format that allows mentors and mentees to meet on a regular basis to discuss current spiritual, social, academic, and transitional challenges.

  6. Why Mentoring? • Incoming freshman face a variety of challenges • These challenges include: • Social choices • Spiritual journey • Life skills • Academic success

  7. YOur Role • Your role as mentors is to provide guidance: • socially (community) • spiritually (Christ) • academically (scholarship) • life skills (service)

  8. Something to Offer • As a mentor you have something to offer • You have college and life experience the freshman do not have • You may be able to help underclassmen learn and grow from challenges you have faced

  9. How do I act as a mentor? • Be: • open • authentic • honest

  10. How do I help them grow in these areas? • Each meeting you will be assigned specific questions and areas to work through • These questions will be geared at developing freshman: • socially • spiritually • academically • life skills

  11. Your responsibility as mentors • Take meetings seriously • Show up on time • Practice what you preach

  12. Conclusion • You have a responsibility as an upperclassman to take the younger players under your wing • If we are going to be successful on the field, we must be successful off the field
