  2. All Insects Have… • 3 body parts • 6 jointed legs • 2 antennae • An exoskeleton

  3. What is the Head Used For? • The head is used mainly for eating, sensing things, and gathering information .

  4. What is the Thorax Used For? • The thorax protects the body and gives support for the three pairs of jointed legs and/or, 1 or 2 pairs of wings.

  5. What is the Abdomen Used For? • The abdomen contains the organs used for digestion and reproduction.

  6. What are the Legs Used For? • The legs may be adapted for running, grasping, digging, or swimming.

  7. What are the Antennae Used For? • All insects have two antennae that they use to sense the world around them. Whether their antennae are short, long, thick or thin, insects use them to feel, smell, and even taste!

  8. What is an Exoskeleton? • Protects the insect from the environment and natural enemies. The exoskeleton also has many sense organs for sensing light, pressure, sound, temperature, wind, and smells.
