INDICATOR NUMBER 7: AVAILABILITY OF SOCIAL FACILITIES, COMMERCE AND SERVICES AND PUBLIC OPEN SPACES • A set of measurement units were defined, evaluating the city’s performance in: • Allocating relevant economic activities on or near the riverfront (commerce and services floor-area ratio on the river corridor); • Placing attractive social facilities near the river (floor area of social facilities on the river corridor in relation to city’s population); • Reserving significant areas of the river corridor for leisure and public meeting (percentage of public open areas within the river corridor). INDICATOR NUMBER 7: AVAILABILITY OF SOCIAL FACILITIES, COMMERCE AND SERVICES AND PUBLIC OPEN SPACES • Questions to address/Future Developments • Should a narrower river corridor (and not the 300 m buffer to the river) be considered? • Should a minimum area for a social facility or shop be required? • “Commerce and services” limited to services provided directly in relation to the riverine location (e.g. boat-renting, bars) or all existent commercial units and services ? • Break-down the measurement units so as to reflect different levels of service and include qualitative evaluations?
