  1. Claude Monet

  2. Claude Monet • Paved the way for the Impressionist Art Movement which is named after his picture “Impression, Sunrise” • Concerned with recreating moods and light at various times of the day and year • Was interested in how light sparkles off objects since he was a child • Drew a lot in school including caricatures which he made a living from for the first part of his artistic career • His parents were not supportive of his career choice

  3. Claude Monet Continued • Was drafted into the French Army and served in Africa which he later said influenced his impressions of light and color • Impressionism- art movement in the early 1800’s • They applied the paint to the canvas directly in rapid brushstrokes, without framing outlines • When viewed from close up, the paintings seem to dissolve into lines and dots and from far away the picture shows clearly • Painted their artwork in “plein air” or plain air (outside in nature)

  4. Personal Thoughts on Monet • Answer one of the following ?’s or come up with your own ideas how your artwork relates to your life • Take all the time provided and write at least a half page (you will be sharing these with your neighbor when we’re done) • If you were going to make artwork outside where would you go and what would you make? Have you ever tried to start doing something that wasn’t popular? Do you think Impressionist art is better or worse than other more realistic kinds of art? Would you consider your parents supportive?
