  1. The Rock Paintings In Mongolia Unveil The Lifestyle Of Their Ancestor The rock paintings or the petroglyphs in Mongolia are great historical resources as they narrate a lot about the Mongols, their lifestyle and much about their great leaders and ancestors. These petroglyphs hail back to the prehistoric iron and Bronze Age and inscribe a whole lot of information about the Mongol ancestors who came to tread on this earth 3000 to 5000 years back. The rock paintings of Mongolia depict a lot through the carved figures, animal art and motifs. The figures engraved vary from those of wild birds and animals to that of humans, both male and female. The images sometimes frame vivid narratives of culture and lifestyle of the ancient inhabitants of this land who are shown to be familiar with hunting, sowing seeds, practicing agriculture, domesticating animals, celebrating rituals and raising families. It is interesting to note that the petroglyphs are also noted to aesthetically present the intimate bond between the males and their female counterparts. The rock carvings depict horse carriages and ox carts as the prime modes of transport for the inhabitants. Tsagaan Salaa petroglyph is one of the most complex structures of western Mongolia, situated inside the Altai Tavan Bogd National Park. This is considered by the researchers as one of the most precious and aesthetically crafted petroglyphs in Mongolia that delivers vital information about the transitional period when the wild hunt gathering society was seen to get steadily involved in livestock breeding that primarily marked the classic nomad economy in Mongolia. Khoid Tsenkheriin Agui is one of the most colossus petroglyphs situated in the west of Mankhan soum center of Khovd province. Constructed at a higher altitude above the sea level this petroglyph is made of carbonate rocks, white gray limestone and marble. The unique feature of this petroglyph is the chamber above the dome outside the interior ceiling of the cave. Such an engineered construction proves that when fire broke out inside the cave the inhabitants took shelter there. The chiseled paintings, vibrant in the red dirt paint project animal figures of ostriches, camels, cranes, buffalos and snakes. Rashaan Khad petroglyph is one of the most prominent memorials of eastern Mongolia situated near the southeast end of Mount Binder in Batshireet Soum, Khentii Aimag and is rich in historical resources. It showcase various inscriptions (Arabian, Khaitan, Chinese, Persian and Tibetan), animal and human figures, stamp imprints, stencil paintings, and important documents associated with the Hun period, Khaitan period, and the Mongol period.

  2. Apart from these petroglyphs Mongolia also boasts of the Del Uul petroglyphs situated in the territory of Ulziit soum of Dundgobi province. These petroglyphs project many symbols hailing back to the different historical time periods. Bichigtiin Am petroglyph takes pride in the rock arts that also establish the practice of using cattle ploughs among the inhabitants. The ancient rock paintings in Mongolia thus can not only be a subject of historical interests but they also promise to keep up with your adventurous spirits as once you witness them you will spontaneously get a smack of the ancient times when life was simpler yet survival tougher.
