  1. 57th IETF Meeting - July 2003 - RMON Working Group draft-stephan-ipv6-protocol-identifier-00.txt Emile Stephan/Jordi Palet

  2. draft-stephan-ipv6-protocol-identifier-00.txt • Output of the 6QM project • Protocol Identifiers defined in the draft • Examples of usage in the IPPM REPORTING MIB • Protocol Identifiers to define

  3. Output of the 6QM* project • IPv6 protocol identifiers needs: • 1-point passive measurement (RMON MIB); • Need of IPv6 protocol identifiers to describe probe capabilities in protocolDirTable • 2-points active measurement (IPPM REPORTING MIB); • Need of IPv6 protocol identifiers for describing the Type of Packet exchanged. • RFC2330 TypeP is ‘implemented’ as a pair <TypeP, TypePaddress> • TypeP is a string made of dot separated protocol names. Sub IP protocol names should been previously defined using the macro PROTOCOL-IDENTIFIER of the RFC 2895. Higher protocol names derivate ‘automatically’ from the RFC 2895 framework. • TypePaddress is a string made of space separated parameters. • N-points spatial measurement; • Mix of active and passive measurement; * www.6qm.org

  4. Examples of usage in the IPPM MIB • Description of either the source or the destination of the measurement points: • IPv4 example : • The RFC2896 defines the protocol identifier ‘ip’ and ‘ipip4’. • The TypeP of one end of a tunnel of IP in IP <“ip.ipip4”, “192.168.1.1 128.2.6.7”>. • IPv6 example : • The RFC2896 defines the protocol identifier ‘udp’. This draft defines the protocol identifier ‘ip6’. • The TypeP of UDP over IPv6 is <"ip6.udp", “2001:688:1f9b:7654:3210:b3ff:feab:3456 3485">

  5. Protocol Identifiers defined • IPv6 • ip6 • ipip6 • icmp6 • SUB IP • mplsu • mplsm

  6. Protocol Identifiers to define • IPv4 protocol identifier need ? • SUB IP • mplsvpn • Stacked vlan • … • Discussion on the need / status of the draft…
