American Isolationism • The United States wished to avoid war, being in the great depression caused them to focus on themselves and only themselves. • The events taken place for Isolationism benefitted Japan and German because it allowed them to create their battle plan without having to worry about America, YET. • It was mainly the presidents calls to avoid foreign business, his main goal was to restore America

  3. Neutrality Act of 1935 • It was passed in 1935 to prevent the nation from being drawn into war. • The U.S felt that they were getting involved with Germany and Japan • Made the U.S to become not closer to any further wars

  4. Quarantine Speech • One of the most famous speeches by Franklin D. Roosevelt on October 5, 1937 • It was a significant speech directing America’s isolationism. FDR was explaining why it was so important to stay away. The speech was to promote more isolationism. • At this point, Japan and Germany realize it’s time to make moves to draw America into war, while they continue to create their strategies for war.

  5. Cash-and-Carry policy • Germany and Britain was involved in this act • Policy allowed countries at war to purchase American goods if paid in cash and picked up in American ports. • Roosevelt believed it would slow down Hitler’s advances

  6. U.S Embargo on Japan • It was time for American’s to stop supplying Japan for their good’s for war. Japan, being a small country, needed many materials that America had. Once America had stopped supplying Japan because of their acts, Japan reacts with rage. • This caused a huge threat to one of the opposing countries, already causing America to be on the verge of war. • The embargo on Japan forced them to see America as an enemy.

  7. Lend & Lease Act • The Lend and Lease act involved America and United Kingdom, USSR, Republic of China, Free France, and many other Allied nations, with materials and supplies for war on the contract of “borrowing” the supplies without immediate pay or upon agreement. • This act was probably the catalyst of America’s entanglement in the war. Supplying countries was an act of helping a country in the war.

  8. Atlantic Charter • Agreement that shared goals for the U.S and Britain against mutual enemy in Hitler • Isolationist thought this would lead to ear • After, America started to look like a nation ready for war

  9. Pearl Harbor Attacked • December 7th, 1941 Japan bombs Pearl Harbor. • This final act forced America to join the war, against Germany, and Japan. • It was finally the moment Japan and Germany had hoped for, America joining the war would be the “highlight” considering it had one of the biggest army’s. It was Japan and Germany’s hope to wipe out America.
