how does this occur
How does this occur?
  • Various GI symptoms in those with autism
    • Diarrhea, bloating, pain
  • Associated with abnormalities in small intestine mucous and GI function
  • In those with autism, the walls of the small intestine are “leaky” and therefore gluten and casein proteins go into blood stream
  • The dietary gluten and casein in the bloodstream create peptides that are similar to opioid substances
  • This induces “antigenic” responses which affects the central nervous system
  • “Opioid Excess” theory of autism
    • Reaction to pain, hunger and thirst
