  3. Postgraduate Degree Programme • Six one-year full time courses: • MRes Automated Planning for Autonomous Systems • MSc Forensic Informatics • MSc Computer and Internet Technology • MSc Business Information Technology Systems • MSc Information Management • MSc Information and Library Studies

MRes Automated Planning for Autonomous Systems • Research-led masters, building on a unique base of international research excellence • Designed to develop specialist automated planning skills for the implementation and deployment of next-generation intelligent robotics and autonomous control systems • The course includes an interdisciplinary research project carried out in collaboration with an external partner organisation • Space systems • Unmanned vehicles • Autonomous energy management systems • Intelligent game characters • Plan recognition for intelligent multi-modal interactions

Provides skills to perform forensic investigation of all aspects of crime and terrorism involving computers, networks and mobile communications systems Jointly delivered with the Centre for Forensic Science The course includes practical crime scene and court exercises, and a work placement Graduates are employed in specialist security roles within the financial sector various security services and law-enforcement agencies the software and IT sector MSc Forensic Informatics The course was very interesting and enjoyable, and taught to an excellent standard. MSc Computer and Internet Technology • Develops the fundamental skills to understand and build advanced Internet Systems • Coverage includes: • computer security • enterprise architecture • client side programming • designing usable systems • distributed information management • enterprise networking • mobile software applications • In partnership with the Hunter Centre for Entrepreneurship, the course also provides classes in technology entrepreneurship for business start-up • Graduates are employed as software analysts and architects, e-business consultants, computer security analysts, programmers and software developers

MSc Business Information Technology Systems • Designed to meet the huge demand for technically skilled hybrid managers with business knowledge and information technology skills • Jointly delivered with the world-leading Strathclyde Business School. • Business classes include business strategy, operations management, managing business resources, and programme and project management. • IT classes include enterprise architecture, database and web systems development, and service management. • Previous employers include: Accenture, BT Syntegra, Cap Gemini Ernst Young (CGEY), Deloitte, Hewlett Packard, IBM, JP Morgan, KPMG, Morgan Stanley, Pricewaterhouse Coopers, PA Consultants.

MSc Information Management • A CILIP accredited course designed to develop specialist information management skills, with emphasis on business information systems • Classes include enterprise architecture, business analysis, business intelligence, database and web systems development, information retrieval, information policy & law, and service management • Graduates entitled to associate membership of CILIP and eligible for chartership leading to award of MCLIP, providing direct entry to a professional body and meeting the requirements of many specialist employers • Graduates are employed in both the private and public sector, in both management and consultancy roles: previous employers include IBM,Sun Microsystems,Arthur Anderson (Accenture), Cap Gemini, Price Waterhouse Coopers, Compaq, SMS MT, and Royal Bank of Scotland I can safely say it was the IM course which properly equipped me to enter the consultancy field. MSc Information and Library Studies • Practitioner-based with an emphasis on practical skills for libraries and information services professionals • Classes cover organisation of knowledge, digital libraries, information sources and services, information retrieval, and management and marketing of information and library services • The course includes a practical work placement • Graduates entitled to associate membership of CILIP and eligible for chartership leading to award of MCLIP, providing direct entry to a professional body and meeting the requirements of many specialist employers. • Graduates are employed as information consultants and analysts, as well as in the more traditional areas of public and private sector librarianship Chartered Institute ofLibrary and InformationProfessionals

PhD Opportunities • The department welcomes applications from well-qualified research candidates • As a participant in the Scottish Informatics and Computer Science Alliance (SICSA) – a research-pooling initiative funded by the Scottish Government – we have 4 studentships • Key message: have a research theme in mind and check that Strathclyde has research strengths in this area before applying
