  2. Chapter XXXI Summary • Dr. Fogg is in a state of distress because they are behind in their journey and they need to make to New York and they are eight hours behind. An unknown man lends Fix a sledge, which after a couple of hours they ride across the frozen Nebraska plains, and they huddle together to keep warm. When they arrive at New York City, they find that their steamboat, The China, had left forty-five minutes before.

  3. Chapter XXXII Summary When the groups realizes the China, going towards Liverpool, had left forty-five minutes ago, they were heart broken. Passepartout was very upset, for he blamed himself for the setback. Phileas Fogg was about to give up hope himself. But, he chose to not give up. He was able to hail a boat and bribe Captain Andrew Speedy to take the group to Liverpool. They will leave at nine o’clock.

  4. Chapter XXXV Summary Mr. Fogg is gravely upset over his fortune. He locks himself in his room and thinks about the hundred obstacles and the many dangers theyfaced on his journey. Passepartout insisted it was his fault. Aouda confronts him after being called upon. They get into a strong conversation that ends in a marriage proposal from Aouda.

Fix tells Dr. Fogg that he can do that if he rides a sledge. He says that if their company hadn’t been attacked by Indians, they could have been there with eleven hours to spare. Mudge shows them the vehicle, which was located in a hut near Fort Kearny. • Buildings: Fort Kearny, NE, Omaha Train Station, A warehouse, A harbor in New York • Plants/Animals: There are none in this chapter most likely because it is mostly set in the frozen winter plains. • Possessions: Auoda’s fur cloaks to keep her warm. • Obstacles: They have to regain eight hours to get to New York in time. • Question this chapter made us ask: How will they get to England in time to win the bet? What will happen if he looses the bet? Fur Cloaks like Auoda wore, Dr. Fogg needs to regain eight hours.
