  1. Life Science Questions and Answers Created by : Olivia Brook Payne 17 Questions

  2. Draw and label a diagram of the water cycle. Be sure to include its source of energy. Be sure to have all labels. Diagram WITH labels..

  3. What happens during condensation? Does Earth only experience condensation in the clouds? Why or why not? Condensation happens when: the outer temperature of something is hotter than the inner temperature. Condensation doesn’t only happen in the clouds. I know this because: condensation can happen at any time if the outer temperature of something is hotter than the inner temperature.

  4. Draw and label a diagram of the carbon dioxide/oxygen cycle. Include producers & animals and add what would happen we got more producers on animal in an ecosystem. If we had too many plants, then we would have too much oxygen in the air. If we had too many animals or pollution, then we would have too much carbon in the air.

  5. Describe the differences in inherited traits vs. learned behaviors. Give 5+ examples of each. Inherited traits: are traits living thing this are BORN with Examples: Hair color, eye color, height, diseases Learned Behaviors: are actions living things learn DURING their lives Examples: learning how to … walk, cook, hunt, swim

  6. Define the following & give at least 2 examples of each:-producer -consumer -decomposer -herbivores -carnivores -omnivores -scavenger -niche Producers: make their own food Ex: flowers, trees Consumer: something that needs to eat to survive/cannot make its own food Ex: cats, dogs Decomposer: breaks down dead plants and animals Ex: bacteria, fungi Herbivores: eats ONLY plants Ex: giraffe, rabbit Omnivores: eat BOTH plants and animals Ex: humans, bears Scavengers: eats DEAD plants and animals Ex: vultures, hyenas Niche: the role an animal has in its environment Ex: humans release C2O for plants, plants release Ox for humans

  7. How are the teeth different of a herbivore vs. a carnivore? Can they decide one day to change their diet? Why? Herbivore teeth: flat for grinding plants Carnivore teeth: sharp for grabbing, catching, and killing prey Could they change their diet? Why?: Herbivores couldn’t because they wouldn’t be able to kill their prey, but carnivores could because their teeth could break apart the plants

  8. Put the following food chains in the correct order & identify the following organisms as producer, consumer, predator, prey, or scavenger. #1: Seal, seaweed, polar bear, sun#2: Hawk, sun, rabbit, grass, vulture #1: sun(producer), seaweed(producer, prey), seal(consumer, prey), polar bear(consumer, predator) #2: sun(producer), grass(producer, prey), rabbit(consumer, prey), hawk(consumer, prey, predator), vulture(consumer, predator)

  9. List 4 different possibilities that would happen if one of the organisms in your food chains from question #10 died. If the seed was taken away the plants wouldn’t grow If the plants didn’t grow they couldn’t release oxygen if the plants didn’t release oxygen Animals would run out of air if the animals didn’t have enough air they would all die

  10. Define and list the similarities and differences in complete & incomplete metamorphosis. **Be sure to draw an example of an animal’s metamorphosis for each – and label each stage! Bothmetamorphosis’s include stages animals go through to reach adult hood accept a different amount of phases.

  11. Describe the function/purpose of each plant part: seed, flower, leaf, stem, root Seed: protect plant till it’s ready to grow Flower: attract pollinators Leaf: photosynthesis Stem: bring water to leaves, and nutrients to the roots Root: to collect water

  12. Do all plants need the same amount of sunlight, water, and nutrients in the soil? Explain with examples. No, plants have adapted to their environment over the hundreds of years of their existences so certain species have different needs than others, such as cacti only needs a small drink every month because it can store water in side of itself, where as a daisy needs watering every day to stay healthy.

  13. List the 3 ways seeds mainly travel. Seeds travel by: 1.wind 2.animals 3.water

  14. List 4+ possibilities how a plant population would decrease. Plants in an ecosystem could decrease if… 1.flood 2.forest fire 3.drought 4.volcano

  15. Choose an animal that lives in a desert and list 3 adaptations (1 adaptation must help it survive in its climate). Kangaroo rat burrow in sand long tail brown fur blends in with sand

  16. Describe how a cactus adapts and its niches in its environment. Cactus’ adaptations: Shallow roots that absorb water, quills to protect is self, can store water. Cactus’ niches (jobs): a hallow cactus can be protective home to a animal

  17. Describe a deciduous forest biome in detail with pictures. Deciduous forest biome…deciduous forests are a type of forest were the dominant species of trees live

  18. Describe a tundra biome & the organisms in it. Include plant and animal adaptations for survival Biome: The tundra is cold, and flat with no plant life Animals: polar bears and seals both have thick blubber layers to keep them warm Plants: no plant life

  19. Thanks for Playing!I Hope You Leaned something New!
