Its purpose is to sanitize and clean the dishes you eat off of, the utensils you cook with, etc. However, how does the dishwasher get clean? Not cleaning your dishwasher is similar to using the same towel every day and never washing it. Does your dishwasher have grime on the inside? Open your dishwasher and take a look at it. What does the interior of it look like? If you notice hard water spots, a film, or any other dirt, grime, or buildup, it is likely time to give your dishwasher a thorough cleaning. How do you do this? Consider the following: Store bought versus home made options. There are a number of different ways you can clean your dishwasher, but the biggest question you have to ask yourself is if you want to buy a cleaner, or make one, It is going to be equally effective either way. If you opt to purchase a dishwasher cleaner, you will visit the aisle at the store that has the dishwasher detergent. You will notice the aisle holds products designed specifically for cleaning the dishwasher itself. There are scented ones, ones you run while running a load of dishes, and ones that require to be run with an empty dishwasher. You decide which you prefer. Then follow the instructions on the bottle or box and clean your dishwasher. You may want to wipe it down by hand at some point after running the cycle just to remove any extra or leftover grime. If you are going to go with the do it yourself version, you will want to get white vinegar and baking soda. These are two of the best cleaning agents out there, and can do wonders for your dishwasher. Here's what you should do:  Place a dishwasher-safe cup filled with plain white vinegar on the top rack of the dishwasher.  Set your dishwasher to the hottest water setting.  Run the dishwasher through a whole cycle.

In addition it will help to sanitize the dishwasher, and remove any odors that may be lingering in it.  Sprinkle a cup of baking soda into the bottom of the tub, and run it through a short cycle. This will help to remove any stains, and any lingering odors. Then you are done, and you have a nice clean dishwasher, ready to wash your dishes. Why clean your dishwasher? Cleaning your dishwasher is a good idea for many reasons. It prolongs the life of the dishwasher, as it keeps lines clean, and helps reduce build up, which means a longer life. It also means cleaner dishes, and more sanitary sanitization. In other words, it gives you a cleaner clean. And who doesn't want that?
