  2. WG-1 has not formally met since last ITF Meeting • Monitoring current El Niño situation • Collaboration with other Working Groups • drought • climate and disaster databases • Establishment of El Niño Centre in Ecuador STILL 3 activities are underway

  3. A. El Niño outlooks have been routinely released B. 29 August 2002 at WSSD C. Information brochure on El Niño and La Niña events D. Discussions between WG 1 and 3 on studying impacts and consequences of the current events

  4. Collaboration will be covered under separate reports • El Niño Centre A. Stakeholders meeting scheduled for, 9-10 Jan. in Guayaquil, Ecuador B. Interim Director has been hired C. Climate Outlook Forums will begin in December

  5. Coordination Improving Risk Communication through Correlation of Climate and Disaster Databases WG 1 and 3 working on this WMO Hq 19-20 Sept. presentations on 1. Disaster databases 2. Climate databases

  6. Results of presentations • Identification of relevant variables • Defining of thresholds for Extreme Events • Identification of Global Climate Information sources Detailed report will be issued

  7. Problems • Participation • funding of activities
