  1. Study Halls • If you currently struggle in your classes and/or are earning grades in the C-D range, or you have a lot of after school commitments please consider… • Taking a study hall. This built-in study time each day will allow you to stay on top of your homework. • Take time to develop good study habits. • No Credit will be earned for a study hall. 2017 Class of Empowering all learners for life!

  2. Research Classes • Ask your teachers. They can help you decide if a class is a good choice for you. • Discuss with your family and older siblings. • See your counselor or assistant principal with questions. • What you chose will be what you keep.   9. Your High School Transcript • Each student should have one set of permanent grades. • Each class passed is worth ½ credit • 7 classes = 3 ½ credits each semester 2017 Class of Empowering all learners for life!

  10. What if I fail a required course? • You are given an excellent opportunity to pass your classes at AHS. Summer School is your ONLY option for recovering credit lost from failureof a required course. There are two (2) sessions of summer school. 12 days in length. 8:00 – 1:00. Each session is worth ½ (.5)credit. • To be a 11th grader next year, you will need to complete a minimum of 10 credits by next fall. • To be eligible for sports 12 credits need to be completed! • Make 10th grade a great year! 2017 Class of Empowering all learners for life!

  11. Athletics at AHS • Austin High School offers the following competitive opportunities: 2017 We are a member of the Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL) and the Big 9 Conference. To be eligible to participate in a sport, students must comply with MSHSL as well as specific District rules. Class of

Eligibility for Athletics AHS • In order to be eligible for sports, you must have accumulated the following credits: • Grade 11: Start of year= 12 credits/End of 1st semester= 15 credits • Grade 12: Start of year= 18 credits/End of 1st semester= 21 credits 2017 Class of Empowering all learners for life!

Attendance Policy Excused Absences Unexcused Absences • Bring note within two days Tardies • 4 Tardies turn into lunch detention • Loss of Credit – Hold on Grades • No credit in any course where the student exceeds three (3) unexcused absences or exceeds nine (9) absences within a semester. 2017 Class of Empowering all learners for life!

Completing the Course Request Form • Please: *See your core teachers in • Language Arts • Math • Science • Social Studies • for recommendations for next year. • (Students must sign up for full load of classes = 7 credits and 3 additional credits of alternates) 2017 Class of Empowering all learners for life!

Completing the Course Request Form • Select: • Seven full credits and 3 alternate credits. • You may list by priority in numeric order! • Select classes carefully as they will be a part of your schedule next year.
