  1. Factors That Determine Small Business Success

  2. Factors • Timing • Business Plan • Cost Control • Perseverance

  3. Timing It can be difficult to control business timing in some instances, but in many cases, you have the power to predict whether the timing is right or not. If you were to open a video rental store (just as Netflix is booming in popularity), you will fail. Analyze the industry you’d like to enter and pay close attention to consumer trends.

  4. Business Plan Writing a proper blueprint for your business is crucial. You wouldn’t build a house without having an architect's plans, would you? The same applies to growing a business. If you go into a venture with little understanding of the finances, the business operations, the marketing procedures behind it, you’ll struggle when you open. Spend the time to develop a solid business plan and ask experienced business people to look over it.

  5. Cost Control A business’s success is all about the cash flow. If you’re putting in less money than you’re churning out, you’ll turn a profit. If you’re putting in more money than you’re making, you will lose money. In order to be profitable in the beginning, minimize your expenses as much as possible. Keep the overhead costs, like advertising and location costs, as low as possible. Spend your money on the most crucial things, like creating more inventory or improving marketing.

  6. Perseverance This sounds like an obvious one, but many entrepreneurs don’t seem willing to put in the hard work it takes to make a small business into a gold mine. In the beginning, you’d like to get your product noticed by big-box stores. Successful entrepreneurs are the ones who pick up the phone and call as many places as possible. They’re the ones who go door-to-door and put in the blood, sweat, and tears. Billionaire entrepreneur Mark Cuban has said, “Work like there is someone working 24 hours a day to take it away from you.” Maintain this mindset in every step you take on your road to success.
