A luptat împotriva francezilor până la înfrângerea acestora şi a jucat un rol esenţial în războiul împotriva Viênamului de Sud şi a Statelor Unite. In front of the City Hall is the statue of Hô Chí Minh (1890-1969), the founder of the Communist Party, President of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam (North) established in 1954. He fought against the French until their defeat and played a key role in the war against South Vietnam and the United States.
