The church stands on a hill called Petersbergl, which is the only noteworthy elevation within the Munich’s historic Old Town.
The interior of the church is decorated by gilded Baroque accents and a dominating high altar dedicated to the figure of Saint Peter.

The church contains gothic paintings by German artist Jan Polack, as well as a series of frescos painted by Johann Baptist Zimmermann. The ceiling fresco by Johann Baptist Zimmermann (1753–1756) was restored in 1999-2000
