TheMestrovic Atelier Ivan Meštrović (1883 –1962) was a Croatian sculptor and architect. He is arguably Croatia's most famous sculptor and artist and he is renowned as one of the greatest sculptors of the 20th century. Meštrović actually lived with his family and worked in this house from 1920's until 1942 when he left Croatia. And it is here where he complied many of his art works and monuments including The Indians - a monument in Chicago. He refused to live in a communist country but in 1952 decided to sign off all of his personal estates to the Republic of Croatia and Croatian people, including over 400 sculptures and numerous drawings
The Meštrović atelier is an attractive memorial and exhibition site located in Zagreb’s Upper Town, close to St. Mark’s Church

The complex in the Upper Town’s Mletačka ulica (street) comprises the family’s living quarters, the atrium, the artist’s atelier, a garden, and the collection. The entire estate and its collection were donated by Meštrović in a contract made in 1952 as part of the bequest he left to his homeland.
