  2. Carbohydrates • Provides energy • 2 types • Simple (sugars) • Complex (starches) • Helps your digestive system work well • Helps feel full, so less likely to overeat • Sources: grains, fruits, vegetables, dairy, etc….

  3. Fats • Helps brain and nervous system develop • 2 types • Unsaturated (good) • saturated + trans fat(bad) • Good reduces bad cholesterol • Bad increases chance of heart disease • Sources: dairy, alternatives, veggies etc…

  4. Protein • Builds, maintains, replaces tissues • 2 types • Incomplete(vegetable) • Complete(animal sources) • Incomplete lacks essential amino acids • Complete contains all essential amino acids • Sources: Alternatives, meats, dairy, veggies

  5. Fibre • Helps move food through the digestive system • 2 types • Soluble fibre (partially dissolves in water) • Insoluble fibre (doesn’t dissolve in water ) • Soluble lowers cholesterol • Insoluble helps constipation • Sources: grains, fruits, veggies, etc….

  6. Vitamins • Helps you grow and develop • 2 types • fat soluble • water soluble • Fat vitamins stored in fat tissues in body & liver • Water travel in bloodstream, what isn’t used is urinated • Sources: veggies, fruits, alternatives, dairy etc…

  7. Minerals (dietary) • Help your body grow, develop, stay healthy • 2 types • macro minerals • trace minerals • Calcium macro helps build bones • Your body needs tiny bit of trace • Sources: grains, dairy, veggies, alternatives etc...

Water • Makes up more than half body weight • Can't survive more than few days without • 0 types • Body needs water for many important jobs • Part of immune system, helps fight illness • Each cell depends on it to function normally • Important during sports, reduces dehydration • Sources: fruits, veggies, dairy etc….
