  1. Meet Josefina bilingual reading and vocabulary. Arriero/Muleteer Collar/Necklace Pieles de Oveja/Sheepskins Arriero = Muleteer (one who herds and works with mules). In the southwestern culture, mules are important modes of transportation and carrying items of trade. Most people tied their stuff to the mule's back and walked alongside it. Pieles de oveja = sheepskins. Stacked and used as a bed. Josephina walked on this so her footsteps wouldn't make noise. Collar = Necklace. Josephina's aunt gave her a necklace as a present toward the end of the book. Riachuelo/Clothes Canasto/Basket Rebozo/Protect Canasto = basket. Josephina carries clothes to the river in it. Riachuelo = creek. Where they wash the clothes. Rebozo = a sort of headdress they wear to protect their scalps from the sun.
