  4. Blogs in language teaching • A blog (short for weblog) is a frequently updated website that often resembles an online journal. • As a teacher and students, it is very useful to use weblog in language teaching because it’s easy to handle and create.

  5. Types of Blogs Used in Language Teaching • According to Aaron Campbell (2003): 1.The Tutor Blog is run by the teacher of a class. The content of this type of blog can be limited to syllabus, course information, homework, assignments, etc. Or the teacher may choose to write about his or her life. 6. 2.The Class Blog is a shared space, with teacher and students being able to write. It is best used as a collaborative discussion space, an extra-curricular extension of the classroom. Students can be encouraged to reflect in more depth, in writing, on themes touched upon in class. Students are given a greater sense of freedom. 'Bee Online'http://beeonline.blogspot.com/)

  7. 3.The Learner Blog is the third type of blog and it requires more time and effort from the teacher to both set up and moderate. It involves giving each student an individual blog. The benefit of this is that this becomes the student's own personal online space. Students can be encouraged to write frequently about what interests them, and can post comments on other students' blogs.

  8. Some Reasons for Using Blogs in Language Teaching: • To encourage shy students to participate. • To guide students to online resources appropriate for their level. • To provide extra reading practice for students. • As online student learner journals that can be read by their peers. • To increase the sense of community in a class.

  9. Wikis in Language Teaching • The term wiki is derived from the Hawaiian word for "quick". Best-known wiki project on the Web is Wikipedia ( the open-access encyclopedia). • The goal of Wiki sites is to become a shared repository of knowledge.

  10. Wikis are typically powered by wiki software and are often used to create collaborative websites, to power community websites, for personal note taking, in corporate intranets, and in knowledge management systems. • Using wikis in English language teaching can help students greatly. They can not only read and analyse different articles, they have the opportunity to participate themselves in their creation, edit some information and even put some changes.

  11. For instance there are examples given for ways to use wikis in education, which is very helpful. You can also have a look at school projects using wikis. link: http://www.wikiineducation.com/display/ikiw/Home
