Cambodian Flag • The blue color symbolizes the country's royalty. The red represents the nation and the white represents the religion, beginning with Brahmanism, and the current major religion - Buddhism. The emblem of the temple represents the structure of the universe.
History of Cambodia • Was on the verge of dissolution by the mid 19th century • Established a protectorate in 1863 • Was a virtual colony by 1884 and soon after was a part of the Indochina Union • French controlled it even after WWII • Gained independence on November 9th, 1953 • In 1975- 1979 a communist group led a genocide which led to death of at least 2 million people.
Economy • Based on agriculture (logging and rice)
Geography • Dominated by monsoons • The Mekong River runs through it
Yummy Food • Similar to other asian foods however it has less spice and variety • Fried rice and fried noodles is very common • Variety of meat • Eat with spoon and fork • Limited veggies • Plentiful amounts of fruit

Music and video • Folk music • Inspired by ancient forms and hindu forms • Dancing goes with the music • Modern Music • separated into ramvong and ramkbach • Ramvong is slower music • they use VCD’s for karaoke (actors use this)
Religion • Dominantly Buddhism (About 95%) • There are other religions such as Hinduism, Islam (Sunni Branch), Christianity and traditional Chinese religions are present here.
Government • Constitutional Monarchy • Prime minister is the head of government • King appoints the prime minister • King can’t appoint his own heir • The royal council chooses the next king • Uncertainty allows corruption and increased costs for investors
Clothing • Three important silk textiles in Cambodia • The Sampot is the national garment • Red, yellow, green, blue and black are the most used colors in clothing today • Sot silk weaving is important to their cultural past
Art/Literature • Arts include Weaving, Silver Smiting, Stone Carving, Crowns • Dance is a very popular thing in Cambodia • Dance contains Classical, Folk and vernacular styles and incorporated in to many forms of music • Literature contains many epics and ancient stories
Currency • The currency is the Cambodian Riel. It comes in 50, 100, 200, 500, 1000, 5000, 10000, 50000, and 100000 • Most commonly used is the 500 Riel
