  8. Can you have a picnic in the Library? • Sadly no picnics are allowed. • However we have food friendly zones : • There are signs throughout the library letting you know what zone you are in ! • Recycle your waste (Leave no trace!) R1

  10. Can I use my mobile phone in the library ? • Yes, there are zones in every library where you can use your mobile. These are signposted and easily located. R2

  13. How do I access E-resources? • All you will need is your central University username and password which you are given when you register as a student. • This can be used logon to databases and e-journals if you are on or off campus. R5

  14. Is it true that I can have a book for as long as I want? • You can loan a book for 4 weeks unless it is recalled by another user. You can also renew the book by logging on to your Library Account via the library catalogue if no-one else has requested it. • Taught PGs can take out up to 20 books. • Research PG’s can take out 40 books • Y1

Where do I get my library PIN and what’s it for ? • PINs issued by email & available from Circulation Desk & Reception Desk • Renew and reserve items online • See details of your loans, reservations & fines • Logon to your library account to change your PIN to something you will easily recall. Y2

  16. What will I find in the High Demand collection? • Heavily used books and photocopies of articles • 1 night, 2 night and 3 hour loan periods • Some reference-only material Y3

  17. How can I obtain an item that the library doesn’t have in stock? • Document Supply is located at the Joule Enquiry Desk and in the Main Library on the Blue Ground floor. • £2 per standard item for books, journal articles, theses etc • Journal articles can be emailed direct to you Y4

  18. Do we have to pay fines? How much are they? • Borrowed material should be returned on or before the due date • There are fines for overdue books • Reminders are sent by email. Check your Library Account and your emails – not seeing reminders doesn’t count as an excuse! • Books can usually be renewed B1

  19. Are there any computers in the library that students can use? • There is a computer cluster in the Joule Library and on Blue Area Floors 1, 2 & 3 in the Main Library • 240 computers in Main Library • Computer clusters available elsewhere on campus • Access Library Catalogue, email, internet, office, and other software B2

  20. How do I register to use the University computer network? • Self-registration system for your central username and password. • This gives you off-campus access to most electronic resources • Help available at all Library enquiry desks. B3

  21. I love the library how late can I stay? • Joule Library – 9.00 to 8.45 weekdays + weekends • Main Library open 7 days a week during semesters • See the Library website for the most up-to-date information • www.manchester.ac.uk/library • B4

  22. Is there any Research skills training available ? • Training courses and drop-in sessions run by Library to help you find and manage information • Includes database searching and EndNote reference management courses

  23. What is Endnote ? • Manage your references • Store, organise and format references • Import references from databases • Compile bibliographies to insert directly into your disseration

  24. How do I use the Photocopiers ? • Photocopiers located around the Library • Your ID Card acts as your photocopying card • A4 copies are 6p each; A3 copies are 10p • The Photocopying Services desk offers colour photocopying and copying onto OHP transparencies
