  7. Planning the presentation • This is part of preparing a presentation • At the planning stage, you need to establish the context or setting in which the presentation will be given • Then you are able to design a presentation that is relevant to the specific task and the audience

  8. Planning the presentation • The six steps of planning • Define (Describe) the purpose • Analyse the audience (needs, interests and level of knowledge) • Consider the context and setting • Identify the main ideas • Research supporting material • Plan and organise the material

Group Activity In small groups select a team leader agree on the following: • Which of the 3 styles or objectives is best suited for the following kinds of speeches: • A new policy speech by the Prime Minister • A celebrity speaker at a fund raising even • A school principal at a prize giving ceremony • A CEO telling staff about budget cuts • A University lecturer presenting a research paper
