  1. Employee Voice helps us create the right conversations. Where we openly develop, prioritise and share ideas, both with the people we work but alsowith our partners or stakeholders in other organisations.

  2. Meet Jack and Jill…. Employee Voice is the “Facebook” for Ideas and practical employee engagement! ... Yes, our Ideas and Innovation Community to help us work smarter, save money, improve processes and deliver better products or service – together!

  3. Here’s 4 more “I”s which characterise Employee Voice: Involvement, Interaction, Intimacy and Influence. EV is all about developing democracy in the workplace and our becoming a Learning Organisation.

  4. Andy Grove, the Founder of Intel, sums it up ... "A corporation is a living organism; it has to continue to shed its skin. Methods have to change. Focus has to change. Values have to change. The sum total of those changes is transformation.”

  5. ... But to make that happen, you have got to make people part of process. That way you give them a stake in the outcome!

  6. Here’s employee engagement summed up in 6 words ... Story No 1. “Perfect strategy; sold hard. Nothing happened.” Story No 2: “Engaged team creates strategy. Huge results.”

  7. I agree and I’d like to make an important point. People are not against change; often they are against how change is implemented. Yes, Employee Voice makes people part of Andy’s solution.

  8. … how it adds structure and co-ordination and helps decision making Employee Voice is workplace wisdom, practically expressed by the people who do the work. Because participants can vote and comment, management can prioritise. That informs our decisions on which ideas should be implemented and how implied change can best be managed.

  9. Consultation – an interactive process where you expect those involved to influence the decision .. There’s no doubt: people want to be consulted, not just surveyed. EV is also a complete Consultation Management System!

  10. Monday morning . . . (or Sunday night!) I want to share my idea about how we book meeting rooms!

  11. I wonder if anyone else has thought of it. I’ll check first.

  12. Nope! So here I go! Write it, give it a category (saving money and improving internal processes) and press GO! Now it’s shared and colleagues will get alerted.

  13. OK, let’s go back to the brilliant features in the FaceBook of employee engagement I can easily follow and filter ideas using my personal ideas menu. Easy navigation and being able to track, filter and report on ideas is essential to an enjoyable experience.

  14. Just looking at other ideas. Yes, I’ll vote for this one from John R. And I’ll follow it and make a suggestion. JR will be alerted and I’ll be kept up to date automatically. We want the best ideas to bubble to the top!

  15. Must look at John R’s profile… bet he’s had other great ideas. Each employee has their own profile to track their activity.

  16. Wow! I’ve just been e-mailed to say there’s been comments and lots of votes on my idea. Must go see! Later that day…

  17. One day later… The status of my idea is “Under Review”. Fast feedback, I like that! You’re important Jack! And we’re listening. Keep them coming!

  18. Later that week… My idea has gone from “Under Review” to “Planned” – plus a nice complement from Admin published on the site! And from the CEO too. Glad he is listening! I am happy to listen, Jack. Listen, listen, listen to the people who do the work!

  19. Things just keep getting better… It’s in Idea Share now! Wow. Fame at last. Idea Share? That’s where best ideas that can be of value outside of the organisation can be shared with others. Admin clicks “Share” to send it to the Idea Share portal. From there a partner organisation can “Grab” it and it goes on their site as a “guest” idea for them to consider.

  20. Winning by Sharing! Enabling ideas to be shared amongst partner organisations

  21. 10 days later… My idea is in Consultation mode now! That starts with an “Idea Session” where management are looking to get more detailed thoughts on this one subject. Same process but focussed.

  22. Idea Sessions… Sessions are specific and have a start and end date. They can be everyone and or “ePanels” of experts

  23. 20 days later… Wider consultation is the next stage … • Yes, consultation with those who will plan the implementation and consider all the implications. • Jack’s idea means change. So let’s make all those affected by it part of the consultation process. That way they will have a stake in the outcome!

  24. Consultation – an interactive process where you expect those involved to influence the decision .. There’s no doubt: people want to be consulted, not just surveyed. EV is also a complete Consultation Management System!

  25. Jill looks after admin. It’s low maintenance, high ROI … My job is Admin of the system. I can do so much in so little time, since so much is automated! Including reports ... See next slide

  26. Here are the activities that Jill does to run her community… without any stress! My first job is to invite or import all users. To invite them, I would simply send them a friendly URL and ask them to register...But I prefer to import all of the users – it saves them a little time (the system automatically generates them a username and password (which they an change later)

  27. Once the ideas start flooding in.... I’m alerted by email to check and approve. The dashboard makes it easy to manage all ideas...

  28. Once I publish an idea – the creator is automatically sent an email to inform them. All other participants are also emailed to say that a new idea has been posted. This all happens while I’m making a cup of coffee!

  29. My next step would be to assign a status to the ideas that have been posted. This is my one task that isn’t fully automated. But I have had my coffee and I’m ready to take 30 seconds out my busy schedule to do it!

  30. Once I do assign a status to the idea submitted – an email is sent to the creator to inform them – again all automated!

  31. Reporting on Ideas and Conversations Real time reports – easily track sessions, ideas and comments. Publish results.

  32. A word from Jill on the importance of measuring activity... To make progress and involve more employees (and senior managers) you need to have the facts. These enable you to measure participation and then increase it. Participation in Employee Voice is a metric for employee engagement. There’s a clear relationship between engagement and stakeholder satisfaction and profit.

  33. Reports...

  34. A word on Reward and Recognition … Recognition can be its own reward, so that suggesting ideas becomes part of your organisation’s DNA! A simple Blog easily promotes success ...

  35. Reward and Recognition

  36. Setting up consultations is simple too. I start by recording the basic information such as description, purpose and target audience....

  37. I can then upload the relevant documents and information to the consultation. Attach a survey and built content pages.

  38. Running consultation reports – this is a task I enjoy. I quickly see responses coming in – I can also prompt inactive users to respond...

  39. Benefits summary Let me just summarise the reasons for using Employee Voice ...

  40. Decimate the time spent in administration. Increase ideas by a factor of 10! • Employees can easily submit ideas and suggestions • Promote Ideas – good ideas bubble to the top • Comment on others’ ideas and take them forward • Employees enjoy using such an easy to use tool • Employees have their own profiles – which track participation and ideas they are following • Ideas are updated with a status and description of outcomes • Surveys, discussion forums, video, documents - all within the Consultation module - can be deployed for further interaction and fact finding.

  41. More … • Co-ordinate decision making - it’s about prioritising ideas as well as receiving them • Access for all - Employees can self-register or all employees can be imported to the system • Interactive communication and fast feedback (No–one will invest their time and efforts if it is thought to be a waste of time) • Powerful reporting capabilities with the ability to rapidly produce tailored reports • Commitment through ownership - All good communities are “owned” by the participants. This builds TRUST and thus encourages contributions

  42. “I was extremely impressed how quickly the site was ready for us to use. A couple of days after choosing Employee Voice we were able to log onto our new, fully branded ideas site to be able to customise the wording and choose our moderation settings. We launched it only a few days after that.” Sue Wilson, Project Manager, North East Lincolnshire Council.

  43. Jack and Jill went … Hey Jill, I’ve just had an idea. You know the way we go up that hill to fetch the water...? We should install a pipe .... ... and it will flow to us! Jack, you’re a genius. But that’s made me think of a way to make that great idea even better. Why don’t we ...
