Getting an Assessment • An Ergonomic Assessment is needed if an employee: • is new to a work site • moves to a new work station • experiences discomfort at his or her work station • A new hire is automatically setup for an assessment. • When an employee is new or moves to a new work station, an Ergonomic Assessment must be done within 60 days. Employees may request an assessment at any time as well. Back Next

Assessment Responsibility A DHHS Manager or Supervisor is responsible for: • Ensuring Ergonomic Assessment recommendations and modifications are implemented as soon as possible, usually within 2 weeks of receiving the written Work Station Evaluation report • Ensuring all staff members have the proper equipment and/or tools to perform their jobs • Reporting any concerns early - prevention is the best solution • Encouraging staff members to set up work stations that: • are efficient • have adequate space • include headsets to prevent cradling the phone Back Next

Knowing the Policy The Ergonomics Policy applies to all DHHS employees who work: • with computers at a computer work station • with related office equipment • at other jobs involving repetitive motion tasks Maine Law, MRSA Title 26 – Labor and Industry, requires that every employee be trained in VDT and ergonomics within the first three months of being hired and annually thereafter.
