  18. This was a low lying area, flat terrain, with not much vegetation in the front. The settlement was more like an island. The tsunami water inundation was high in this place. Hence by landform analysis, it lies under a risk zone. But the death toll for this place , happened to be nothing. Presence of a Connecting Bridge saved. devanampattinam singarathoppu soththikuppam CASE 1: SINGARATHOPPU The entire settlement is located in a level higher than the mean sea level. And it also had a fantastic tree belt in front of their residence . By our landform analysis, all these features should have saved the settlement. But the death toll for these settlements is 23. Period. Absence of a connecting bridge to the main land MGR thittu CASE 2 : SOTHTHIKUPPAM

  19. INFERENCES: The settlements with better connectivity suffered less loss. Better connectivity in terms of roads facilitated immediate relief measures. Movement assessment: the movement during Tsunami was mostly away from the sea. That is a horizontal movement perpendicular to the coast.
