English Language Training – Strategic Direction in Iraq

This article discusses the strategic direction of English language training for the Iraqi security forces, including the vision, career lifecycle, proposed solutions, opportunities, and strategic strands. It addresses the lack of stakeholder support, growing demand, sporadic training, negative impact on effectiveness and efficiency, and lack of resources affecting capabilities. The article proposes the development of synergy between stakeholders, the establishment of an organic English language instructor capability, a regulatory framework for assessment and standards, best practice methodology, and adequate training support. The focus is on the long-term requirement rather than the short-term need.
