Important Keys • Record key is red top left key • Title key pressed repeatedly switches views from SD Card to USB Media to Voice Memos • Menu key is top right key in mid section of device • Menu options are displayed horizontally • Use Right or Left Arrow to move from Menu option to Menu option • Play/Stop key is used to confirm an action and often referred to as the “Enter” key • Press Enter or Down Arrow to select or confirm a Menu option • Press the * or asterisk to Cancel an action at any time or back up a level in the Menu

  3. The Digital Recorder • Built-in amplifier • High quality built-in microphone • Jack for external microphone • Customizable for optimum performance • Recordings are stored in SD Card • Voice Memos are stored in internal flash memory and may be backed up to SD Card

  4. About the Voice Memos • Short recorded messages • Maximum 1 min. in length • Must not exceed 200 messages in number or 30 min. in time • Use automatic gain control (MP3 32 kbps) • Stay in internal flash even when switching SD Cards

  5. Recording a Voice Memo • Hold the Record key down • It responds “Voice Memo” and will beep twice • The beep is the signal to begin speaking • Hold the Record key while recording, release when finished • The recorder will repeat your message

  6. Reviewing the Voice Memos • Press the Title key repeatedly until Book Port Plus responds "Voice Memos" • Use Left or Right arrow to move from memo to memo • BPP responds by playing the recording • To repeat the recording, press the Play/Stop key

  7. Deleting Voice Memos • Move to the Voice Memo to delete • Press the Menu key • Select the Voice Memos option • Select Delete Voice Memo or • Select the Delete All Voice Memos to delete all memos • BPP asks for confirmation • Press Enter (Play/Stop) to confirm

  8. Check Internal Memory Space • Press the Title key until it responds "Voice Memo" • Select a Voice Memo and press key 5 • BPP announces the number of the current memo, the number of memos left to use, and the amount of time available

  9. Backing Up Memos to SD Card • Once in Voice Memos, press the Menu key • Select Backup • BPP copies all Voice Memos into a folder on the SD card named Backup

About Regular Recordings • Recordings are placed in the “Recording” folder in the SD Card • Record as long as there’s space in SD Card • Various settings precisely control recordings • Default sound setting provides high quality with minimum space requirements • Other sound quality modes include Conference, Audio, Analog Cassette, Radio, and Custom • The External Audio Input Jack option in the Menu, allows you to select External Microphone Mode or to • Select Line-in Mode in order to use a patch cord to record from another electronic device

To Record • Press the Record key to enter “recording standby” • BPP announces "New Title" or plays the first few seconds of an existing recording to determine where the new recording belongs • Move Right or Left Arrow to select an existing recording or the New Title option • Press Record key again to start recording • Record key pauses/starts recording • Play/Stop key stops recording NOTE: For a detailed explanation on settings and announcements during standby, please refer to the manual

Tips • Give the recording a meaningful name during the first few seconds to make it easy to identify later • BPP always adds to the end of an existing file, so there’s no need to move to the end before you begin to record • Add to a recording by pressing Record again • You may wish to use earphones to prevent the announcements from entering the recording or • Go to the Menu and turn Guidance Off in the Recording settings • If these recordings are made for further editing on your PC, they are ready to use. They are located in the Recording folder • To determine card space, press key 5 while in standby

  13. Headings in a Recording • When you finish a recording, BPP may create a Digital Talking Book to play in other DTB players • Headings are navigation points in a title • Allows you to create headings in both recording and playback • Allows you to delete sections between headings

  14. Creating or Canceling a Heading • The Go To key creates a heading during recording or standby • Press Go To key again to cancel a heading you just created while in standby

  15. Delete Heading • Move to the section where the heading resides • Press the Menu key and select the Edit option • Select the Cancel Heading option and confirm your selection

Remove Sections • Move to the section to remove • Press the menu key and select the Edit option • Select Remove Section • BPP responds "Select the First Section to be Removed" and puts you in a horizontal menu of sections • Select the section with the Play/Stop key and BPP will ask to Select End Section to Remove • Use the Arrows to move to the last section to remove • If removing only one section, make the end and beginning sections the same • Press Enter to confirm and BPP responds by removing the appropriate sections • To delete non-contiguous sections, delete them one at a time

  17. Deleting a Recording • Same steps as Deleting other titles • Navigate to the title • Press the Menu key and select the Media Management option • Select the Delete Title option and confirm

  18. Build Book • DTB’s are comprised of multiple files • Each time you add to a recording or create a new heading, BPP creates a new file within a folder and gives it the next consecutive number as name • To build a DTB, press the Menu key and select the Media Management option • Select the Build the Book option • Once the book is built you may no longer add to the recording until you use the Prepare for Editing tool in the Media Management menu • Navigate recordings by Heading with the Heading Navigation keys 7 and 9 • BPP’s recordings contain only Level 1 Headings

Voice Memos vs. Recordings Voice Memos Recordings RECORDINGS are stored in SD Card May record as long as SD Card has space Press and release Record key to go on standby, again to record, again to pause Customizable sound settings Recordings may be copied and edited in computer May create DTBs with Level 1 Headings to play in other players • VOICE MEMOS are stored in internal memory • Must not be longer than 1 min. • Must hold record key while speaking • Sound quality settings are already defined • Must not exceed 200 messages in number or 30 min. in time • May be backed up to SD Card
