Boots to Business • HB 319 [KRS 14A.1-070 (44-45) & 14A.2-165]: • Helps Veterans to begin writing new chapters in their lives by starting new businesses, assisting in the transition from “Boots to Business” • Veterans who launch new businesses are exempt from paying initial filing fees to the Secretary of State’s office • Businesses who qualify also have annual report filing fees waived for the next four years • Covers veterans of the U.S. Armed Forces and Reserves and is also extended to National Guard service members

Boots to Business • HB 319 [KRS 14A.1-070 (44-45) & 14A.2-165]: • Why? • To distinguish and recognize veteran-owned businesses • To help veterans transition with an opportunity to grow something of importance to them and their communities • To say “thank you” to our veterans and their families who sacrifice so much for our country • As of September 10th, 111 entities have filed

KDVA Veterans Centers Polling Locations • Commonwealth’s four state veterans centers will now serve as polling locations in future elections • Partnership between Secretary of State, KDVA and Hopkins, Hardin, Jessamine and Perry County clerks • “Making sure these veterans – especially those in the care of our state’s veterans centers – can easily access the ballot box is the most fundamental way we can honor their service.” – Secretary Grimes • Secretary Grimes also encourages Kentuckians to honor the service of veterans at the ballot box through her Vote in Honor of a Veteran program

  5. Military Heroes Voting Initiative (SB 1, 2013) • Championed by Secretary Grimes this law now allows military and overseas citizens to register to vote and update their registration online and request and receive absentee ballots via an online portal • To date, the Secretary of State’s office has received 1,033 military or overseas ballot applications for the 2018 General Election and more than 10,000 since its inception
