Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; 5. does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; 6. does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; 7. bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. 8. Love never fails.

  5. The Meaning of the words • “Does not parade itself” • “vaunt” = boast, brag • “a braggart or windbag” • Love proves itself by kind works and words • “Is not Puffed up” • Conceited - put on airs • Proud and high-minded • Filled with pride Negative Positive Humility

  6. Scriptures teach Humility Ps.9:12“He does not forget the cry of the humble.” Ps. 10:17 “Lord, thou hast heard the desire of the humble.” Ps. 138:6 “hath he respect unto the lowly.” Pro.3:34 “Surely He scorns the scornful, But gives grace to the humble.”

True Humility Thinking soberly about oneself Rom. 12:3 “not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly” Recognize our dependence on God Jer. 10:23 “O LORD, I know the way of man is not in himself; It is not in man who walks to direct his own steps.”

  12. What Is Humility ? “Humility is a quality that when you discover that you have it, you don't.”

  13. Attitudes of the Humble Humility will have a desire to serve others “…whoever desires to become great among you shall be your servant.” Mk. 10: 43 Pride demands to be served. Pride says look at me while love says look at others.

  14. Attitudes of the Humble Realizes he is an unprofitable servant “So likewise you, when you have done all those things which you are commanded, say, 'We are unprofitable servants. We have done what was our duty to do.’” Luke 17:10

  17. A More Excellent Way Humility Christians are to… “submit yourselves to your elders. Yes, all of you be submissive to one another, and be clothed with humility, for "God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble." 1 Peter 5:5
