  1. Important Dates • Thursday, October 31: Halloween Parade @ 1:05 p.m. • Friday, November 1: Principal and BESCA President Coffee from 8:30 a.m. - 9:30 a.m. • Monday-Friday, November 4-8: Fall Conferences from 12:30 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. • The students will be taking the CPAA and STAR Early Literacy Assessment this week and next week during their Lexia time. Since they won’t be doing Lexiaduring class. please have them do this instructional reading program at home for a total of 60 minutes when possible. Thanks! ELA News The spelling words for next week will include those with “l” clusters such as class, flop, plot, and clock.  Next week, we will continue to read narratives and be able to ask and answer questions about key details in the text as well as retell stories.  They will use illustrations and details in stories to describe characters, setting, and events     Please make sure your child is reading every day. Please have your child practice reading and spelling the 100 high frequency words. Students need to be able to recognize them by sight (not sounding out). A little practice every day will help your child become a better reader. Math News Parent /Teacher Conferences When: November 4 – 8, 2013 The students will be dismissed from school at 12:05 the first week of November due to conferences. I will have a sign-up sheet for fall conferences tomorrow, Friday, October 25th. Please indicate a day and time when you can come to discuss your child’s academic and overall progress in the class. This would be a great time to share any concerns or questions you might have about first grade. Conferences will start at 12:30 and the last appointment will be at 3:30. If these 30 minute time slots will not work for you, please let me know and we can arrange for a different time.
