  8. Stoma Care Education and Training of Care Workers In 2011, the Ministry of Health & Welfare changed interpretation of a Law. Under the Medical Law, only medecal doctors and nurses instructed by doctors could remove and replace stoma bags before then as the job. (Naturally, ostomates and thier families are free to conduct them.) Now, care workers are allowed to change stoma bags as thier jobs. But most of them are not familiar with stomas, then it became an urgent issue how to educate and train care workers on stoma care.

  9. In 2012, Japanese Society of Stoma and Continence Rehabilitation (JSSCR) has published an care workers education and training curriculum to give them basic knowledge and skills on stoma care, based on consultation with JOA. JOA is encouraging care workers organizations to conduct education and training of thier members since then.

  14. Public Help: Government made it duty of local governments to have stocks of ostomy appliances at thier public shelters. But most of the local government people don't know what is ostomy. JOA's local chapters have to work hard to make them knowledgeable about ostomates and persuade them to follow the national guideline.
