  1. Development of Scalable and Accurate Earthquake Simulations Xue-bin Chi Computer Network Information Center, Chinese Academy of Sciences chi@sccas.cn

  2. Objectives and significance • Develop large scale earthquake simulations on extreme scale supercomputer system • Improve parallel performance of the existing AWP-ODC-GPU code, get comparison results on both China and US Petascale systems • Develop AMR/DM capabilities added to AWP-ODC, capable of resolving the rupture process and wave propagation over orders of magnitude in length and time scales

  3. Objectives and significance • Incorporate inelastic off-fault response into AWP-ODC • Implement fully nonlinear 3D soil response into AWP-ODC • Visual analysis on wave propagation

  4. Need for and Impact of China-US Collaboration • NSF and NSFC give support for this project • Improve both earthquake simulation height • An example for multidisciplinary, especially on Geoscience and computer science, as well as algorithm and software areas • Will be a milestone for earthquake simulation

  5. Approach and mechanisms • Work together on both side via exchange scholar • Establish a long relationship on both side working group • Build up a platform for earthquake simulation

  6. Teams • Dr. Yifeng Cui • Dr. Kim Olsen • Dr. Steven Day • Prof. Xiang-chu Yin • Dr. Xuebin Chi • Dr. Jian Zhang, Dr. Ningming Nie • …

  7. Thank you very much!
