  4. “Their was a girl at the station that reminded me of myself the way I use to be. She stumbled out of her car barely hold her head up & her eyes were almost closed. As she entered the station she went straight to the bathroom. I used to stop & do pills in the bathroom at gas stations. I am sure that is what she was doing. . . . I felt the need to thank God for being with me all the times that I drove all messed up like her.”

  6. Kentucky Treatment Courts • 620 graduates and 75 drug free babies; • $516,976 in child support and $542,571 in paid other court ordered obligations; • 160,928 hours of community service performed; • 50% lower recidivism than probation as usual; • For every dollar spent on Drug Court, $4.14 saved in avoided costs.

  7. Kentucky SMART Courts(28th Judicial Circuit) • 124 completions with 60% early termination; • 88% employment rate; • Probation “as usual” defendants significantly more likely than SMART defendants to test positive for illicit drugs (other than THC); • Pay their fines, fees and costs; • Far less likely to be re-arrested; and • Serve less jail time and save taxpayer dollars.

  8. Medication Assisted Treatment • MAT available at all stages; • Courts utilize hearings to confirm compliance with KAR and FDA requirements; • 28th Circuit MAT program served as state and national model; • Naltrexone offers unique advantages.

  9. “Today was kind of bittersweet, this morning I had a drug test and drug court. I wasn’t called until last in drug court. . . . Truthfully it made me nervous, although I know I’ve done nothing at all wrong. Turns out it was a good thing, I’ve never felt so good as I did to have my judge brag on me this way. I feel proud, it was a great morning . . . .”
