  1. Grow Grass Grow

  2. Purpose Which type of water would make the grass grow better pond, tap or salt?

  3. Hypothesis • I think pond water would grow the best because it does not have chemicals in it to affect its growth. • I think tap water would grow, but not as good as pond because it has chemicals in it that make it ok to drink. • I did not think salt water would grow at all because I thought the salt in the water would stop it from growing.

  4. Materials The materials I used in my project were 9 pots,1 bag of soil, tap, salt and pond water, 3 novo-meds (for watering) and a measuring cup.

  5. Method Step: 1. Gather materials. 2. Put soil in pots (1 cup). 3. Put 1 inch hole in middle of pot to put seeds in. 4. Put 12 seeds in each hole. 5. Cover hole with soil. 6. Water grass as needed. 7. Watch for first signs of grass. 8. Record watering and when grass comes. 9. Measure grass as it grows. 10. Select the best type of water.

  6. Variables Manipulated variable – Type of water Responding variable – Height of grass. Controlled variable – Amount of soil and seeds. Pots they are in. Type of water. Amount of light and, placement under light.

  7. Results • I used 3 pots per type of water, so I had the experiment done 3 times. • At the end I record the tallest piece of grass per pot. • This is the information I obtained.

  8. 9 pots 9 measurements

  9. Average of experiments

  10. Analysis For my analysis I first recorded my information in 2 charts, all information and data averages. Then I used excel to graph this information. The first graph you will see is all data, and the second one is the averages.

  11. Conclusion • In conclusion, I figured out that my hypothesis was correct. • Pond water grew grass better than tap or salt water. • The average height for my grass grown with pond water was 319mm, and tap was 254.6667mm.

  12. Note!!!!!! • Although the average pond water growth was the tallest, one of the tap water pots was the tallest. • Tap water would have had the best average except one of the pots growth was behind the other two. • While the growth range of pond was only 109mm, tap water was 335mm.

  13. Sources of error • Draft from the door on the right side. • Heat from my dads office on the left side. • To know if all seeds were equal.

  14. Ways to improve • Having sunlight instead of artificial light. • Having a way to see if the seeds I put in the pots were seeds not just shells. • Testing salt and pond water for impurities.
