  1. Muscles Human Body - more than 650 muscles Muscle makes up half a person’s body weight

  2. Types of Muscles Skeletal Muscle Attached to Bone Smooth Muscle Automatic Control Cardiac Muscle Your Heart

  3. Skeletal Muscles: Voluntary muscles that are attached to bonesand help them move.

  4. Deltoids Trapezius Pectorals Biceps Latissimus Dorsi Triceps Abdominal Obliques Hamstring Quadriceps Gluteus Maximus Gastrocnemius Soleus Skeletal Muscles

  5. Smooth Muscles: Involuntary muscle tissue that lines the inside of blood vessels, intestines, and stomach.

  6. Cardiac Muscles: Involuntary muscles that make up the heart.

  7. How Muscles Cause Movement

  8. Muscles Can only Pull on tendons Often work in pairs Flexors and Extensors

  9. Movement Muscle Pulls on Moves Bone Contracts Tendon at Joint

  10. Biceps – Muscles on the top of the upper arm. • Triceps – Muscles on the bottom of the upper arm How do bones and Muscles Cause Movement? • When I flex my arm, My bicep contracts and condenses and my triceps stretches and relaxes. • When my arm is straight, My bicep stretches and relaxes and my triceps contracts and condenses . • Explanation of Activity • Skeletal muscles work in pairs to move parts of your body. When one muscle contracts (condenses; shortens) the other stretches and relaxes. • When the arm is flexed… • The bicep contracts and pulls the bone on the forearm causing the arm to bend at the joint in the elbow. The triceps stretches and relaxes when this happens. • When the arm is straight… • The tricep contracts and pulls the bone on the forearm causing the arm to straighten at the joint in the elbow. The biceps stretches and relaxes when this happens.

  11. Injuries to the Muscles and Bones

  12. Strain: An injury which a muscle or tendon is torn slightly or stretched to far. Dislocation: When the Bone comes out of the joint. Sprain: Tearing or over stretching of the ligament. Arthritis: Is worn out cartilagein the joint. Fracture: A break or crack in the bone.

  13. Injury Prevention Safety equipment Warm-up Respect your body
