Integumentary System

The integumentary system, with skin as its largest organ, plays a crucial role in protecting our body. It safeguards underlying tissues from physical trauma, microbial invasion, and water loss. Additionally, skin helps regulate body temperature and produces Vitamin D through sunlight exposure, benefiting teeth, eyes, bones, nails, and the immune system. It also contains neurons that enhance our awareness of surroundings, serves as the first immune barrier against invaders, nourishes skin cells through blood vessels, and aids in waste excretion.
