Summer Competitive Edge 2013 • July 1 – August 30 • Begin research • Gain familiarity department and campus • Workshops that introduce campus resources • $3000 Stipend • Jointly funded by OGS/department • SHORE Housing • 14 participants • Art History • Biological Sciences • Biomedical Sciences (2) • Chemistry/Biochemistry (2) • Ethnic Studies • History • Linguistics • Literature • Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering • Physics • Political Science • Psychology

Summer Competitive Edge 2014 • Information Session at Graduate Coordinator’s Meeting on October 30 • Will continue to use San Diego Fellowship Application prompts to determine nominees • 2 nominees per department • Nominations submitted through gradreview2 • All nominations reviewed and ranked by OGS Selection Committee • Nomination deadline date TBD

Diversity Outreach Project • Target Applicants • Historically underrepresented minority • Graduate preparation program • Process • List is generated and sent to participating department every Monday morning • Applicants receive email within 1 week that application was opened • Applicants receive email within 1 week after application has been submitted • Human connection to University/department • Answer questions • Assist with concerns • Big Picture • Encourage applicants to complete application
