POLICY MANDATE • Treaty on Functioning of European Union Article 165 • "Union action…shall be aimed at encouraging the participation of young people in democratic life in Europe" • Council Resolution on a Renewed Framework for European Cooperation in the Youth Field 27 Nov. 2009 • “The Commission will revise the EU Youth Portal and promote greater outreach to young people. ” • Council Resolution on Youth Participation 19 May 2011 • “Restructure the European Youth Portal in line with young people's needs for easy access to information.”

POLICY EXPECTATIONS • Members of European Parliament MEP Brantner - Proposal for a pilot project on a Youth Platform “A way to connect for young activists …directly with other young people interested in the same area in other European countries is lacking. (…) In order to connect European young people active in civil society, it is necessary to have a safe, non-commercial internet platform. ” • MEP Løkkegaard -Proposal for a pilot project on Digital Youth “Support the creation of a digital youth platform where young people across national borders can communicate on their own terms on specific challenges that concern young people today. ” • Young People Structured Dialogue Conclusions, European Youth Week 2011 "Structured Dialogue with young people should be made more visible on the internet/social media."
