  10. Summary of need analysis (1) Central research question The central research question reads as follows: ‘What role do artistic practices play in the well-being of seniors, and how can seniors’ artistic endeavours effectively be stimulated and facilitated on this basis?’ The study clearly shows that any active participation in the arts – regardless of whether this is the visual arts, theatre, dance, singing, etc. – not only provides a source of inspiration and meaning, but also has an impact on various areas of one's life, such as health and social contact. 11. Summary of need analysis (2) • Collaborating factors; various types of initiators: • the voluntary arts are connected with the elderly in and around care institutions • the local government, in collaboration with other organisations, organises voluntary arts according to area • the voluntary arts are an objective in themselves and the individual art initiatives of the elderly are combined with what professional artists are able to offer. • Joint promotion and facilitation program Landelijk Kennisinstituut Cultuureducatie en Amateurkunst

  12. Conclusions and recommendations (2) • The perspective of seniors on art and well-being cannot be logically classified or delimited within arts/well-being models: art is a goal, art is a means and art is a strategy. • The perspective of seniors shows that they experience positive effects on their well-being in the various domains of well-being. Two domains stand out here (motivation and social relationships). They: • They ‘learn something’ in the arts • They receive expert guidance • They have the opportunity of a ‘stage moment’ • They get support from their social network • They get exercise and distraction • The artistic activity contributes to a positive image • They experience a positive group atmosphere within a time investment that fits with their activities agenda. 13. Conclusions and recommendations • The perspective of seniors on artistic practices make it clear that stimulating and facilitating more seniors can take place in the following terrains: • Recruitment • Professional guidance • Preconditions • Image formation Landelijk Kennisinstituut Cultuureducatie en Amateurkunst
