  1. FACIAL IMPLANTS

  2. INDEX • PROCEDURE • RISKS • RECOVERY • RESULTS • THE BENEFITS OF FACIAL IMPLANTS • PRE AND POST-OP CARE • OVERVIEW

  3. PROCEDURE • Facial implants are solid, pre-shaped, three-dimensional objects used to improve the size and appearance of different areas including the chin, jaw, nose, cheeks and beside the nose (paranasal). Facial implant surgery provides a more harmonious appearance to the face. There are different types of implant material used to achieve these contour changes. There are also different shapes of implants according to the area to be enhanced.

  4. RISKS • The implant may need to be removed and/or replaced to treat problems including: implant rupture, infection and implant misplacement. Implant rejection is a risk but is extremely rare.

  5. RECOVERY • The patient can return to work and normal activities within in few days. The patient should not consume alcohol after surgery. Bruising and swelling should have disappeared after several weeks.

  6. RESULTS • The outcome varies from patient to patient, but results are essentially permanent. The overall effect is an enhancement of the deficient contours of the face with an improved appearance.

  7. THE BENEFITS OF FACE IMPLANTS • The most noticeable benefits of this procedure are improved facial contours and better facial symmetry. Face implants are also highly personalized to the individual, and your results can be as dramatic or subtle as you wish. Even better, this will be a permanent solution and you won’t need to return to Tampa Surgical Arts within a few months or years to redo the procedure.

  8. PRE AND POST-OP CARE • Before the surgery begins, you’ll be given comprehensive pre-operative care instructions to ensure you can safely undergo this procedure. You may need to stop taking or adjust certain medications, a process that will be explained in detail to you beforehand. • The post-operative period after this procedure isn’t very long, but there are specific guidelines to follow: • Use a cold compress to reduce any pain or swelling. • In the first two days after the surgery, eat a liquid diet. After that, you should follow a soft foods diet for up to 10 days. • For one week, you will need to recline at a 45-degree angle whenever you’re lying down. • You can return to work and resume your normal activities within a week of the surgery.

  9. OVERVIEW • A facial implant procedure begins with consultation and planning. During your initial office visit, Dr. Davila will examine your face and assess the underlying structure, paying close attention to your chin, cheekbones, jawline and “fixed” features like your eyes and mouth. Then he’ll work with you to design an approach to enhance your facial features and achieve a more pleasing balance while also for ways to address specific issues like a weak jawline, receding chin, or age-related sagging. Ultimately, the approach used in your procedure will be completely customized for you so you can feel confident you’ll get the results you’re looking for. • Most implant procedures are performed using either general anesthesia or local anesthesia, which may be used with a sedative to help you relax. Dr. Davila is skilled in making incisions for implant placement in areas where they’ll be naturally hidden once the area has healed. Most incisions can be placed inside the lower eyelid area or inside the mouth for cheek implants, or inside the lower lip or just under the chin for chin implants. Once the incision is made, Dr. Davila manipulates the tissue in the target area to create a pocket that will help support and “fix” the implant in place. Then he inserts the implant and adjusts it before closing the incisions with tiny sutures. Most facial implant procedures take two hours or less to complete. • Initial recovery and healing takes about a week, at which time your sutures will be removed. At your follow-up visit, Dr. Davila will let you know when you can return to your regular activities.
